Intermediate Selection on a Developmental Journey

چکیده
We examine the joint processes of organizational development and population selection to highlight a dynamic interaction overlooked when considering the processes in isolation. Selection does not operate on quasi-stable traits directly, but rather on contemporaneous performance. Consequently, stable search strategies may be favored by selection on bases other than long-run performance, such as intertemporal performance stability and the rate of performance improvement. Using a computational model of firm innovative efforts guided by stable search strategies under alternative selection regimes, we find that the relative efficacy of alternative search strategies is reversed depending upon the inclusion or exclusion of selection.-2

The “Inner stairs” or “Inner Journey” is one of the epistemological cases in Gnostic schools. Corresponding to the Ascent, traveler's soul during the developmental journey to the stages like Heart, Secret, Spirit and Inner Mystery can obtain a capability which enables traveler to experience the manifestations and External Multiplicities within his heart and offer them fo...
متن کاملSelection of suitable reference genes for real-time PCR studies of early developmental stages of sturgeons
In quantitative real-time PCR, the mRNA level can be quantified in relative terms based on the expression ratio of mRNAs of the target gene and an internal reference gene. Since, an internal standard should be expressed at a constant level among different tissues of an organism at all stages of development, and should be unaffected by the experimental treatment, the stability of different refer...
متن کاملDirectional versus Stabilizing Selection for Developmental Time in Natural and Laboratory Populations of Flour Beetles.
Artificial selection for fast development is successful in long-established laboratory populations of Tribolium, but not in strains recently derived from natural populations. It is shown that selection against fast development in dense, synchronized cultures operates through cannibalism of early pupae by larvae. Since standard husbandry procedures for laboratory strains involve the periodic cre...
متن کاملThe Journey into Adulthood: Study of Military Service as a Rite of Passage in Ahmad Mahmoud’s The Neighbors
This paper attempts to investigate the adolescent narrator’s journey into adulthood in Ahmad Mahmoud’s The Neighbor. Considering the central character’s growth into adulthood, the paper argues that the compulsory military service can be fulfilled as a certain ‘rite of passage’ conventionalized within the society, as represented in the narrative. That is because, through this convention, Khaled ...
